This is the story of a son who is on a mission to help his father who is suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.
I came across a video of Mac McDermott and his father, nicknamed “The Songaminute Man” singing a song together as they drive down the road. It’s the only time that Mac gets he father “Back” as his Alzheimer’s is getting worse day-by-day.
I posted this sweet and touching video on the next page but I warn you…you may want to have a tissue box handy as you watch it. Doing a bit more research I learned that Mac’s father was a singer growing up and preformed in different clubs around the country.
He worked in a factory full-time but kept the signing gig up…and you can tell he has the pipes as you watch the video.
“In the last few years his memory has deteriorated a lot – often not recognizing me as his son…it’s a horrible illness.” says Mac on his site where I first saw this story.
“However, now when we’ve got him singing again he’s back in the room. It’s these moments that we treasure.”
The on the next page of Mac and his father singing in the car has gone viral and I’m so glad as this is a cause that needs our attention. As you watch the video I hope it touches you as much as it did me.
Mac’s father who is suffering from Alzheimer’s is called The Songaminute Man” simply because of how many songs he knows.
Back in the day when he was singing he was a Butlin’s Redcoat and traveled around singing in clubs around the country. “The more the Alzheimer’s kicked in, the more Dad became violent. It was incredibly difficult to manage…and terrifying at times”
But in the video below you can see that Marc has found a way to bring a piece of his father back and it’s touching! This is the therapy that works best for Marc’s dad so they are on a mission to do more of it and raise awareness to this terrible disease.
“NOW WHEN WE’VE GOT HIM SINGING AGAIN HE’S BACK IN THE ROOM. IT’S THESE MOMENTS THAT WE TREASURE”
As you watch the video below I hope it touches you like it did me and you feel so prompted please like and share this with others
